They are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join the Christchurch-based finance team, supporting accurate, timely, and high-quality financial operations across the business.
About the role
Reporting to the Management Accountant, you’ll play a key role in delivering financial services and supporting business performance. This is a broad, hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys variety and working in a dynamic, high-volume environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with monthly financial reporting and analysis
- Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
- Perform reconciliations (bank, balance sheet, general ledger)
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow management
- Prepare and post journals, maintain fixed asset registers, and manage depreciation schedules
- Assist with GST, FBT and other statutory returns
- Contribute to year-end reporting and financial statements
- Provide finance support to the Insurance team, including refunds and client statements
- Support payroll processing
- Drive continuous improvement across finance systems and processes
You’ll be a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a team-focused environment.
To be successful, you will have:
- Relevant accounting qualification
- Experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar high-volume transactional role
- Strong technical accounting fundamentals and systems capability
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability
- Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
