Employers are being reminded thano action is needed while proposed employment changes are currently going through Parliament.

There are currently two sets of changes passing through New Zealand Parliament; the Employment Relations Amendment Bill and the Employment Relations (Triangular Employment) Amendment Bill.

Both of these Bills have passed through Parliament’s Select Committee phase and have been open to public feedbackThe window for public feedback has now closed, with the Triangular Employment Amendment Bill closing most recently on Monday 11th May.

Parliamentary reports will now be collated from the public submissions of the Employment Relations Amendment Bill and the Employment Relations (Triangular Employment) Amendment Bill; these are due on August 1st and September 21st, respectively.

Principal Consultant at EQ Consultants, Viv Patterson, advises: While it’s great that employers want to stay ahead of the curve and ensure that they are adhering to latest legislation, no action is necessary at this stage of the Employment Relations Amendment Bill and the Employment Relations (Triangular Employment) Amendment Bill.

“Both of the Bills are proposals only and details will not be finalised until later in the year. In the meantime, the best course of action is to be aware of the changes and how they could affect you, your employees and your organisation.
